Oh! The lovely Opossum or as some say, Possum. Well to most there is nothing attractive about this animal. They look like giant rats with big mean teeth. They are marsupials really, they carry their young in a pouch & reproduce QUICKLY. They give birth to 2 or 3 litters a year, with 6 to 16 in each litter. Usually when approached, they will hiss and bare their teeth, in hopes that YOU will run away. Eventually a opossum may pass out from threats, from this comes the expression "Playing Possum.

Oposum are opportunistic animals, they will eat any 'food' they can find and sleep in any vacant 'home' they find. They have also been known to kill cats & birds and will battle with dogs that are near the same size. Opossum carry diseases and can cause damage to your house and yard looking for dinner or a safe & cozy place to sleep.
Didelphimorphia is the order of common opossums in the Western Hemisphere. The Virginia Opossum is the original animal named "opossum". Didelphimorphs are small to medium-sized marsupials, about the size of a large house cat. They tend to be semi- arboreal omnivores, although there are many exceptions. Opossums are usually nomadic, staying in one area as long as food and water are easily available. Though they will temporarily occupy abandoned burrows, they do not dig or put much effort into building their own. They favor dark, secure areas, below ground or above. Adult opossums do not hang from trees by their tails, though babies may dangle temporarily. Their prehensile tails are not strong enough to support a mature adult's weight, though they often serve as a brace and a fifth limb when climbing. A mother will sometimes carry her young upon her back, where they will cling tightly even when she is running across the ground or climbing. Opossums have a remarkably robust immune system, and show partial or total immunity to the venom of rattlesnakes, cottonmouths and other pit vipers. The opossum life span is unusually short for a mammal of its size, usually only 2 to 4 years.

As more and more development encroaches upon habitat areas, opossum and other wild animals have fewer places to go. Your home, attic and yard may provide cozy nesting places for these animals. Hearing funny noises in your attic? Holes in your garden, grass or yard? We have solutions!

It is important to understand, when one animal is removed - 'nature' will provide another to fill the void. Our goal is to remove wildlife from homes and commercial structures; where it can be an unhealthy and sometimes dangerous situation for both the animal and humans. We always ask and highly suggest to our clients that they take measures to exlude wild animals from structures and do not provide food sources.
